Sentimental Journeys is the major fundraising event for Longue Vue House and Gardens, a historic estate in New Orleans created by philanthropists Edith and Edgar Stern from 1939 to 1942. To celebrate their 15th wedding anniversary and Edgar’s 50th birthday, the Sterns embarked on a 14 month trip around the world in 1936.
Later documented in a privately published memoir titled A Sentimental Journey through France and Italy and Other Countries, the Sterns’ travels were the inspiration for Longue Vue’s first Sentimental Journeys benefit in 1995. Now one of the premier fundraisers in New Orleans, the benefit, which provides critical support for Longue Vue’s educational and civic endeavors, features world class cuisine, wines, and entertainment and culminates in an auction of one of a kind travel experiences, art, antiques, and jewelry- a perfect tribute to the Sterns’ spirit of adventure and romance!
