Longue Vue House and Gardens is looking for men and women to join our volunteer corps. Volunteer positions are open to college students, retirees, Master Gardeners, student interns, and anyone with time and motivation. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with love for the environment, history, architecture, Southern gardens, fine art, or the decorative arts to be a part of one of New Orleans’ hidden gems. Benefits include the Annual Volunteer Recognition Day with a luncheon honoring volunteers and recognition for their time, a 15% discount in the Longue Vue Gift Shop, free on-site parking, and complimentary tour passes for special guests.

Volunteer areas include:

  • Docents:
    Assist staff with tours of the home and gardens for general visitors and special events.
  • Community and Environmental Project Support:

Get involved with building and installing rain barrels in Gentilly; promote the use of native plants; support neighborhood rebuilding and other community outreach activities.

  • Educator:
    Assist the Education Department with Discovery Garden and house tour field trips, scout events, toddler programming, and family events.
  • Office Help:
    Includes reception, mailings, telephone, meeting set up, and research.
  • Gift Shop:
    Assist with general running of the shop including inventory, gift wrap, and staffing.
  • Gardening Help:
    Assist gardeners with light weeding and tasks to be determined by the head gardener.
  • Ambassador:
    Liaison between Longue Vue and the community with advertising and distribution of brochures.
  • Special Events Support: Participate in developing the many special events such as symposia, fundraising events, teas, and Holidays at Longue Vue.
