Volunteer Opportunities: Garden Outreach

As Pontchartrain Park and Gentilly Woods residents return to their neighborhood, volunteer assistance is vital to the affordability and timeliness of moving home. Before the flood Pontilly was a historic neighborhood noted for its well tended gardens, manicured lawns and extensive public greenspaces – the third largest green space in the city! We graciously welcome people power to assist in neighborhood replanting and garden restoration. Help is encouraged on an individual basis as well as through group efforts. Administration

Reception desk, telephones, computer operation, and general office work.

Curatorial

Record keeping and research of permanent collection, exhibit installation, and flower arranging for the house and special events.

Education

Children’s tours and activities, adult programs, workshops and seminars.

Gardens

Weeding, pruning, deadheading roses, transplanting seedlings, assisting with plant mapping and inventory, and horticulture classes.

Maintenance

Plumbing, carpentry, painting, cleaning and maintenance of benches, equipment and fountains.

Operations

Tours of House and Gardens, foreign language tours, ticket office sales, and hospitality for special events.

Volunteer Benefits
