longue vue

Current Exhibit: The Art of Illumination

This exhibit is comprised of three parts.

Edith Stern, founder of Longue Vue, was known to have rotated her lampshades once a year a tradition that stopped in her later years and so was not continued by the museum.  Holdings from our Lampshade Room in the attic of the home that have never been seen before are one view both in use with lamps and on their own.

A time line of lamps used to illustrate the changes in both technology and style for the period in which Edith Stern lived, 1895-1980.  There is one lamp for each decade ranging from a handmade oil lamp to a touch sensitive aluminum table lamp.

Once you have viewed the lamps and shades of the past we have a few examples of current lamps made by local contemporary artist to show the lamps of now and future.

To compliment this exhibit all of the lighting fixtures within the period rooms of the home have been labeled so that the visitor can become more familiarized with the lamps of our collection as they tour the home.

This exhibit will run until June of 2008
