On the Table

Linens– set of tablecloth and napkins with cotton embroidery “Bird in a Cherry Tree” design, early 20th century, American.

Bird Statues – Mrs. Stern’s Housekeeper, Johanna Martin, suggested the use of ceramic birds as decoration with this tablecloth.  These birds were purchased at Woolworth’s and the price tags kept on for Mrs. Stern delighted in her curious guests faces when they would turn the figures upside-down.  Most figures are cardinals and yellow finches.

Plates & Butter Chips – Ironstone with enameled colors, Spode Manufactory, 20th century, England.  Yellow and green garlanded border with center scene of two women and a man with sheet music and a mandolin seated within classical ruins by the sea.

Bowls – Earthenware with enamel colors, possibly 18th century, Italian or Portuguese.  Hexagonal in shape with a wide yellow and brown border with a vine motif within the bowl.  Each piece has a different figure in the center with Comédie Française like figures.

Glassware – Green blown and cut glass tumblers and goblets, Steuben Glass, early 20th century.

Flatware – James Robinson, sterling silver with stainless steel; New York.

On the Sideboard

Cream Soup Tureen – cream-colored earthenware, Wedgwood, circa 1785, England.

Sunflower Tureens – two of a set of four earthenware tureens in the shape of sunflowers with top and stand; Leeds Pottery, early 20th century, England.

Bay Window Table

Fruit Basket – cream-colored earthenware, Leeds Pottery, 20th century, England.

Chocolate Cups – Sevres hard paste porcelain with enamel color, colored glazes, and gilt.  The women depicted on these cups were all well known figures of 18th century France – Mme de Récamier, Mme de Lafayette, etc.
