Bring your little ones to Longue Vue to stretch and sketch in our program for 2½ to 5 year olds and their parents or caregivers. Get inspired by the beauty of our gardens while painting, dancing, singing, and trying yoga moves under the open sky. Program fee covers one child and one adult. Sibling discounts are offered.

Native Now: “Iris and Water-Loving Plants”
Saturday, April 3
8, 9, 10, and 11 a.m.
Walk down the Longue Vue’s Louisiana Iris path—originally established in the 1940’s by Caroline Dorman—to the pond, where you’ll view many water-loving species, such as the swamp and spider lilies, the playful lizard’s tale, and the regal thalia during native NOW. This program, which take places in the Wild Garden, is free, thanks to a generous grant from the Greater New Orleans Foundation Environmental Fund. It is now offered first-come first-served, and class size is limited, so arrive early at the parking lot adjacent to the garden to participate.

Kinder-Garden: “The Green Grass Grows”

9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Children ages 1½ to 3 years and their accompanying adults are invited to explore the world of gardens through age-appropriate activities such as painting with plants, sorting seeds, singing, making crafts, and digging for worms in this hands-on class for young, curious learners. Program fee covers one child and one adult. Sibling discounts are available.

Louisiana Iris Day at Longue Vue
Saturday, April 3
1 to 5 p.m.
Walk the winding Iris Path at Longue Vue House and Gardens and view a spectacular display of native Louisiana Irises! Planted in 1950s by Caroline Dorman, an early conservationist, educator, and advocate for native plants, Longue Vue’s collection of Louisiana Irises is one of the most extensive in the country. To celebrate these gorgeous blooms, Longue Vue’s Wild Garden will be open to the public at no charge, and the Greater New Orleans Iris Society will offer guided tours at 1, 2, 3, and 4 p.m.

Tea on Tuesday: Dan Gill Presents
“Spring Gardens and the Louisiana Iris”
Tuesday, April 13
1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Join radio personality and LSU Ag Center horticulture expert Dan Gill as he bursts into spring with a discussion of what’s in bloom, with a focus on the beloved Louisiana Iris. A traditional tea will be served after the lecture with a selection of scones, pastries, homemade lemon curd, and finger sandwiches. Afterwards, visit The Shop at Longue Vue for new gardening tools, gloves, and decorative accessories!

Sentimental Journeys

Dinner and Auction: April 16
Longue Vue’s premier fundraiser begins with a Patron Reception at the stunning St. Charles Avenue home of Jennifer and Frederick Heebe, featuring the seasonally-focused cuisine of Chef Michael Farrell of Le Meritage Restaurant at The Maison Dupuy Hotel. The following night’s travel-themed Dinner and Auction will take place at the Flightline First Hanger at the New Orleans Lakefront Airport, which Keith Ribbeck, CMP, of RDS Productions, will transform into “Springtime in Paris.” Guests will enjoy a sumptuous, multi-course dinner, prepared by Chef John Currence, the James Beard Award winning chef and an auction of exclusive and exciting trips. Funds raised at Sentimental Journeys support Longue Vue’s educational and outreach programs. Reservations are required.

Creative Container Arrangements

Join floral design expert Meade Wenzel and Longue Vue’s Head Gardener Amy Graham in this hands-on flower arranging workshop for beginners and experts alike. Guests are encouraged to think creatively in choosing a container to bring—arrangements aren’t just for vases anymore! Fresh flowers, plant material, and arrangement supplies, along with light refreshments, will be provided. Comfortable attire is recommended for this outdoor workshop. Clippers will be available for purchase in The Shop at Longue Vue for guests who do not bring their own.
