Longue Vue House and Gardens Offers Free Field Trips with Free Transportation
(New Orleans, LA) Longue Vue House and Gardens offers a variety of guided field trips for students of all ages. The younger ones love digging for worms and crushing herbs in the Lucy C. Roussel Discovery Garden, an interactive, hands-on children’s garden. Older students exploring the 8-acre Country Place Era estate can find inspiration for photography, drawing, and design projects. These field trips, which can be shaped to support Louisiana Grade Level Expectations, are normally $3 per student. However, in keeping with its goal to make quality programming available to all students who can benefit without regard to means, Longue Vue maintains a VIP Scholarship Fund. This fund allows students who cannot afford to attend the option of participating at reduced or no cost.
Despite this scholarship program, Program Director Jen Gick discovered that some schools were unable to participate because of the cost of bussing students to and from Longue Vue. Upon realizing this need, Longue Vue applied for a grant from PeyBack Foundation, which awarded Longue Vue $6,000 to pay for transportation. Founded by New Orleans Indianapolis Colts quarterback (and New Orleans native) Peyton Manning, the PeyBack Foundation promotes the future success of disadvantaged youth by assisting programs that provide opportunities to at-risk children. “I am thankful and proud each year that the PeyBack Foundation is able to assist a large variety of youth-related agencies” notes Manning, PeyBack Foundation President.
Gick explains, “Thanks to the generosity of the PeyBack Foundation, we will be able to offer our educational programs to more students.” For further information about field trips to Longue Vue, the VIP Scholarship Fund, or the Longue Vue Transportation Fund, contact Kat Chulvick at 504.488.5488, ext. 410 or kchulvick@longuevue.com.
