Adult Programs

Throughout the year, Longue Vue offers adult educational programs to our membership and general public that are designed to enhance the permanent collections. These programs include hands-on workshops, lectures, symposia, exhibits, and seminars relating to civic philanthropy, entrepreneurism, landscape architecture, decorative arts, and architecture.

In addition to our regularly scheduled programs, Longue Vue’s programs may be scheduled for private groups of 10 or more.  If you or your group would like to experience one of Longue Vue’s educational programs, including Tea on Tuesday, Tour and Tea, Flower Arranging, please contact our Sales office at info@longuevue.com or 488-5488, ext. 323.

The Decorative Arts/Design Series

This NEW series explores all aspects of decorative arts and design, a world for which the Sterns were renowned! Each program includes a presentation by Experts, walk around and concluding interactive discussion
that revolves around YOUR questions and issues. So bring your design challenges with you.

House and Garden Tours

Visitors may take docent-led tours through the House and self-guided tours of the Gardens daily. House tours highlight the Stern family history, historically significant Interior Design and period Architecture. Self-guided Garden tour booklets are available in the ticket office. Specialty tours are available on request. Groups of 10 must book a tour group in advance.

Tea on Tuesday

This popular series celebrates the Longue Vue Style for which the Sterns were renowned. Join us once a month for a special presentation on the topics of gardening, architecture, decorative arts, gracious living and community happenings, followed by a traditional tea with a selection of teas, scones, pastries, homemade lemon curd and finger sandwiches. Guests may also tour the gardens at their leisure before or after the Tea.

Tour and Tea - Longue Vue Style

Clubs or groups of 15 or more people can have a private tea and tour any day of the week. When your group comes for a private tea, you will receive a tour of the house followed by a delicious tea along with a selection of scones, pastries, homemade lemon curd and finger sandwiches. Guests may also tour the gardens at their leisure before or after the Tea.

Cost: $30 per person.

Holiday Teas

Holiday Teas are a special offering during the month of December. Holiday Teas include a tour of a decorated Classic Revival style home after a traditional Tea and a holiday musical performance.

Cost for the above Tea programs:
$30 members; $35 non-members.

The Pontchartrain Park + Gentilly Woods Neighborhood Design Weekend was a collaboration between Longue Vue Gardens and the Pontilly Disaster Collaborative. Pontchartrain Park was developed in large part by Longue Vue’s owners, Edith and Edgar Stern. The first planned community accessible to middle-class and professional African-Americans in segregated New Orleans, the neighborhood became a launching ground for prominent activists, politicians, and civic leaders. Pontchartrain Park represents the Sterns’ commitment to civil rights, and it is also evidence of their concern for landscape design: its beautiful streets, gardens, and public spaces have always been an essential part of its identity.
